Everyone with an interest in the future of the iconic Mount Arapilies-Tooan State Park (Dyurrite Cultural Landscape) is invited to have their say on it’s management and facilities via Engage Victoria.

Parks Victoria is seeking community feedback on a revised proposal which strengthens protections for cultural heritage at Dyurrite while providing greater access for recreation activities, including rock climbing.

Feedback is also being sought on how a Victorian Government investment of $1.7m in visitor facilities should be spent.

The revised management approach has been informed by ongoing engagement with the Traditional Owners and the advice from the Dyurrite Community Working Group, made up representatives from Barengi Gadjin Land Council, Arapiles District Community Group, Horsham Rural City Council, Climbing Victoria, Department of Premier of Cabinet and licensed tour operators.

The proposed changes provide better protections for the significant cultural heritage at Dyurrite and clearer guidance on where recreational activities (including rock climbing) can take place. If adopted, it would provide more certainty for Traditional Owners, climbers, and other visitors. 

While some changes to climbing access remain necessary to protect cultural heritage, the 2026 proposal retains significantly more climbing opportunities than that released in 2024.

Parks Victoria CEO Lee Miezis said it was an important opportunity to help secure the future of Dyurrite.

"This is about shaping the future of Dyurrite by better protecting the significant cultural heritage values and creating more opportunities for people to connect with and enjoy this remarkable landscape," Mr Miezis said.

"We want to hear from everyone who loves Dyurrite about their views on the proposal, and where we should invest in new facilities to improve the visitor experience."

Feedback will be carefully considered alongside cultural heritage advice environmental assessments and other technical information. 

Parks Victoria will communicate what was heard, explain how feedback has been considered and outline the next steps following the engagement period.
